High resolution lens for radiotherapy.

Case Study 29

Resolve Optics is an experienced developer and supplier of specialised lenses and lens systems for medical applications opening new possibilities in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

In recent times, as people have become more health conscious and are living for longer, the demand from medical technology companies for state-of-the-art optics to help prevent illness, and to detect and treat it at an early stage has grown significantly.

Mark Pontin, Managing Director of Resolve Optics commented “We were approached by a leading radiotherapy equipment supplier who sought a high-resolution lens able to withstand, and precisely focus, the high levels of radiation produced by their synchrotron device onto tumours. Using cerium-doped glasses, we were able to design and produce a compact f/2.8, 24mm diameter fixed focus lens able to withstand long-term exposure to radiation up to a dose of 100 million radians without discoloration. This new lens is enabling the supplier to improve the precision radiotherapy treatment of tumours that its equipment provides.”

Drawing upon nearly 30 years’ experience – Resolve Optics has built a strong reputation for specialist lens design and manufacture of smaller production quantities of high-performance precision lenses and optical products on time to strict quality and target price guidelines.
