Resolve Optics is a specialist supplier of application optimised fixed focus and zoom lenses design optimised to operate in the ultraviolet (UV) spectral region (200-400 nanometres). Working with camera, instrument and sensor manufacturers – Resolve Optics has developed custom UV lenses for applications including battlefield monitoring, forensics, law enforcement, and nuclear inspection.

A military contractor required a high-performance lens to provide high resolution UV images from 10 meter to infinity with minimal distortion to their automatic return fire system. Ruggedly constructed to operate in the battlefield environment, eight identical custom lenses were required to provide a 360° view enabling the system to detect the UV from gun muzzle flashes, identify their location and return fire to that location automatically.

To provide inspectors with an effective tool for remote verification of spent nuclear fuel, a global leader in nuclear safeguarding technology tasked Resolve Optics to design a wavelength corrected UV zoom lens to enable its Digital Cerenkov Viewing Device to view a nuclear fuel assembly through 10 metres of water. Spent nuclear fuel emits a faint UV (Cerenkov) light when gamma rays from fuel assemblies interact with electrons in the cooling pond water. To meet the challenges of this difficult application, the UV zoom lens was designed to optimally operate from 10°C to 55°C (50°F to 131°F). Miniature motors were incorporated in the design to enable accurate remote setting of both the zoom and focus functions.

Because it makes many substances fluoresce – UV light has properties that make it a very powerful forensic investigative tool. Less well known is the power of reflected-UV imaging to reveal hidden evidence. Resolve Optics is a leading supplier of Reflected UV-visible (RUVIS) lenses for forensic and law enforcement applications based upon their proprietary Model 228 UV lens. The Model 228 is a full-featured high-performance UV lens with an extended magnification range that uses a telescopic focusing mount. The Model 228 offers the capability to image objects from infinity down to 1:1.25 magnification without using add-on adapters.
